AOTL: Arizona’s New Maps Must Be Fair and Representative
of Communities in Every Corner of the State
Arizona’s Number of Congressional Seats Will Remain Unchanged During Redistricting
Today, the Census Bureau released apportionment data based on the 2020 census count that determines the number of seats each state in the country has in the United States House of Representatives. Based on this new data, Arizona will retain its nine congressional seats. The people of Arizona deserve a map that gives them an opportunity to elect a delegation that fairly represents the growing and diverse populations in every corner of the state.
“We’re glad that the Census Bureau has officially kicked off the redistricting process by releasing today’s apportionment numbers. Per today’s announcement, Arizona will retain its nine seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and we’re looking forward to more specific data coming this September that will be used to redraw these nine congressional lines,” said Kendra Alvarez, Arizona All On The Line State Director.
“It’s critical that the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission draw a map which gives power to the people. That means drawing a map that creates districts that reflect the political make-up of the state and gives voters the opportunity to select a delegation that fairly represents Arizonans. All On The Line will do everything in our power to ensure that there is a fair and transparent process that results in a map where both parties have to compete to win the support of the voters,” continued Alvarez.
