Commissioners must continue to consider thousands of public comments and publish a third map

This week, the Colorado Independent Congressional Redistricting Commission published its second congressional staff map developed using final census data, public feedback, and input from commissioners. Although this second congressional staff map reflects input provided by commissioners, there is still an opportunity for the Commission to accept public testimony through the public comment portal to ensure all communities of interest are heard before a final map is approved.

"Colorado’s second preliminary congressional map is another step toward final maps that are truly reflective of Colorado’s growing and diverse population. As commissioners and staff work toward final maps, their decision making must be guided by constitutional criteria, the significant public input collected at the 40 public hearings between July and September, and any additional public comments on communities of interest that are submitted,” said Marco Dorado, AOTL Colorado State Director.

Maps developed based on public engagement will ultimately make them better and more representative of all Coloradans, which is why we urge the Congressional Commission to develop a third staff map for consideration. All On The Line Colorado and our partners are committed to supporting the participation of as many Coloradans as possible to ensure the final congressional map reflects our state’s growing and diverse communities,'' continued Dorado.
