AOTL Condemns Arizona’s Passage of Anti-Voting Rights Bill
SB 1485 Creates Barriers to Vote By Mail and is an Assault on Arizonan’s Voting Rights
Today, the Arizona legislature passed the divisive anti-voter bill SB1485, an attempt to restrict Arizonan’s access to the ballot box. The bill would purge over 100,000 people from the Permanent Early Vote List (PEVL) list, and allow for future purges as well.
“SB1485 is a shameful attempt to silence the will of Arizonans and yet another assault on voting rights in our country – similar to what we’ve seen in Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Texas. This bill has nothing to do with election security or integrity, but rather is another discriminatory measure that makes it harder for people to vote, particularly communities of color. The power to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy and despite the opposition of Arizona voters, our state legislature continues to wage a full-scale attack,” said Kendra Alvarez, All On The Line Arizona State Director.
“The implementation of this bill must be opposed, and Governor Ducey must do the right thing and veto it. Voting is a fundamental right in our nation that should never be compromised,” continued Alvarez.
