AOTL: Colorado’s Preliminary Congressional Map Marks Important First Step in Colorado’s Redistricting Process
Communities of Interest Should Be Prioritized in the Final Map
Yesterday, the Colorado Independent Congressional Redistricting Commission presented a preliminary congressional map, marking an important step in Colorado’s redistricting process. While important, the map is only preliminary and there is still a lengthy process and numerous hearings ahead for commissioners to accept testimony from communities of interest before approving a final map.
"Colorado’s preliminary congressional map marks an important first step toward a final map that considers diverse communities in every corner of the state. We’re glad to see that the preliminary map attempts to reflect the state’s growing Latino community by drawing a new 8th congressional district north of Denver. While we expect this map to change over time, it will be important for redistricting commission staff to use this preliminary map to frame the mapping process for communities of interest and ensure these communities are appropriately prioritized in the final map,” said Marco Dorado, AOTL Colorado State Director.
“There are still significant opportunities for commissioners to fully understand Colorado’s diverse communities of interest and All On The Line Colorado will remain extremely engaged in this process to ensure the final map takes these communities into consideration,'' continued Dorado.
