Today Marco Dorado, All On The Line Colorado State Director issued the following statement following the Independent Congressional Redistricting Commission’s public release of the state’s third congressional staff map:
“The congressional map made public today marks a significant step in Colorado’s redistricting process because it will be the default map submitted to the Colorado Supreme Court if the commissioners fail to approve a map under consideration. As commissioners consider the staff maps and other proposals this weekend, it will be important for their decision-making to be guided by constitutional criteria, the significant public input collected at the 40 public hearings this summer, and additional public comments submitted regarding communities of interest.
“In addition, All On The Line urges the commission to conduct a racially polarized voting analysis on any map plan that will be submitted to the Colorado Supreme Court. We must understand if the maps adhere to Amendment Y and avoid diluting minority voting power.”
