Washington, D.C. – Today, Liz Wester, All On The Line’s Director of Advocacy and Campaign Manager, released the following statement in response to the Texas House passing a map that is identical to the gerrymandered state House map enacted during the 2021-2022 redistricting cycle:
“Throughout the redraw process, Texas House Republicans had every chance to draw a new map that accurately reflects the state’s demographics and political makeup – even rejecting slight improvements to the map. Instead, they once again chose to ignore the will of the people, and passed a gerrymandered map that is identical to the one that is currently in place. These gerrymandered district lines are intended to benefit only Republicans at the expense of Texas voters across the Lone Star state. It is clear that Republicans approached the map drawing process with a clear objective: to cement their own majority.”
