Statement from All On The Line: Attorney General Ken Paxton Has Got To Go
On October 3rd the Austin American Statesman reported that Attorney General Ken Paxton’s chief of staff and other division heads within the Texas Attorney General’s office requested federal authorities to investigate alleged bribery and influence peddling by Attorney General Paxton.
“Attorney General Paxton has let down the State of Texas, time and again, and everyone from his closest allies to his most ardent critics see it. It’s time for AG Paxton to resign,” said Genevieve Van Cleve state director for All On The Line.
“In addition to his day-to-day role, the Attorney General sits on the Legislative Redistricting Board. When it comes to redistricting, Texans need to know that their leaders are doing what is in the best interest of everyone — not just the wealthy and connected. Given the allegations of corruption, it would be highly inappropriate for him to stay in office with the next round of redistricting just around the corner,” Van Cleve continued.
The latest reports only add to the cloud of corruption surrounding Paxton. For years he has served as Texas’s chief law enforcement official while under indictment for securities fraud. As of yet, he has not faced a jury of his peers.
