All On The Line: New Additions to CO's Legislative Redistricting Commission Increase Diversity

Independent Commission Should Now Begin Work on Fair Maps

Today, the Judicial Selection Panel named the final six members of Colorado’s Independent Legislative Redistricting Commission. The new additions join six previously-selected members of the commission and will be responsible for drawing new state legislative districts. Last month, All On The Line joined 30 organizations in calling on the Judicial Selection Panel to increase the diversity of the legislative redistricting commission in accordance with the guidelines laid out in Amendment Z; the final six members announced today honor the spirit of the amendment.

“We’re pleased that the Judicial Selection Panel listened to the call from over 30 organizations -- including All On The Line -- to ensure the legislative redistricting commission reflects Colorado’s diversity. Fair maps begin with diverse communities having a seat at the table. While the finalized list of commissioners lacks representation for Asian and Native American communities, All On The Line will continue to advocate for all Coloradans to have fair representation in this decade’s redistricting process,” said Marco Dorado AOTL Colorado State.

“With the commissioners now finalized, it’s time for the Independent Legislative Redistricting Commission to get to work on the critical task of redistricting as laid out in Amendment Z, ensuring that the process is as transparent and accessible as possible,” Dorado continued.
