AOTL: CO Redistricting Commissions Need To Extend
Written Public Comment Period

Extension Will Make Redistricting Process More Accessible

Today, All On The Line (AOTL) Colorado submitted a letter to Colorado’s Independent Congressional and Legislative Redistricting Commissions and Commission staff urging them to make public participation in the redistricting process more accessible by extending the written public comment period by 60 days at a minimum. AOTL’s letter also included a request for commission staff to make the written public comment submission form more accessible to communities whose primary language is not English.

“In his convening letter to the Independent Congressional Redistricting Commission, Governor Jared Polis recommended extending the written public comment period. AOTL echos the governor’s recommendation and urges both commissions to formally adopt an extension at their next meeting,” said Marco Dorado, AOTL Colorado State Director.

“Given the impact delayed Census data will have on Colorado’s redistricting process, extending the written public comment period will provide additional opportunities for robust public input and participation which informs creation of the  preliminary maps. This additional time will allow  the many communities of interest across the state to more fully participate,” Dorado continued.
