Washington, D.C. — This week, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on H.R. 7109, a bill that would require a citizenship question to be included in the 2030 Census and exclude non-citizens from being counted in state population totals, which are used to determine how many U.S. House seats are allocated to each state at the start of the redistricting process every decade. All On The Line (AOTL) joined the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and over 200 organizations to send a letter to House leadership urging them to reject the anti-democratic legislation.

John Bisognano, President of All On The Line, released the following statement urging Members of Congress to reject the bill:

"A non-partisan, accurate Census count is the bedrock to ensuring a representative democracy for everyone in America. We can’t have fair maps without an accurate count. It’s abundantly clear that in a time when our country is becoming increasingly diverse, this inhumane, partisan bill to instill fear in communities of color and undermine the Census is another attempt to gerrymander. It must be stopped, and Congress must reject it.”
