AOTL: Republicans Should Stop Stalling, Draw Fair State Legislative Maps

Columbus, OH – Today, Katy Shanahan, the Ohio State Director for All On The Line, released the following statement in response to continued stall tactics by Republicans on the Ohio Redistricting Commission: 

“The Republican Commissioners have had everything they need to draw fair maps for months: clear guidelines, a selection of perfectly reasonable maps to choose from, and Democratic colleagues ready and willing to negotiate. Now the Commission has yet another set of reasonable state legislative maps before them that have been drawn by independent map drawers. Given all of this, any claims that Republicans do not have clarity on what it takes to draw fair maps are at best disingenuous. At every turn in this third redraw process, the independent mappers and Democratic Commissioners have worked to move the ball forward, but Republicans refused to do so despite having all necessary tools at their disposal. Now the process is seemingly gridlocked because Republicans are refusing to do their jobs.   

“There is no excuse for these partisan stall tactics. Republicans must work with their Democratic colleagues to land the plane and pass fair maps today, as ordered by the Ohio Supreme Court and required by our constitution.”
