AOTL Statement on Colorado’s Third Legislative Staff Maps
Today, Marco Dorado, All On The Line Colorado State Director, issued the following statement following the Independent Legislative Redistricting Commission’s public release of the state’s third legislative staff maps:
“Over the last few months, public comments submitted to the Commission have continued to urge commissioners to ensure communities of interest are fairly reflected in both the State Senate and House maps.
“The legislative maps made public today based on that feedback are an important step in Colorado’s redistricting process. They will be the default maps submitted to the Colorado Supreme Court if commissioners cannot reach a consensus on maps under consideration. These maps are also the outcome of significant public input and commissioner deliberation as intended and required by Amendment Z in the Colorado Constitution.
“As this process continues, commissioners must approve maps that reflect the public comments about communities of interest. These maps should ensure communities of interest are appropriately prioritized before considering competitiveness, in compliance with the state constitution. All On The Line Colorado will remain committed to advocating for fair maps that reflect the growing and diverse population across the state.”
