Legislators who voted for this map are complicit in diluting the voice and vote of Texans
Today, Genevieve Van Cleve, All On The Line Texas State Director, released the following statement after the Texas State Senate voted on the passage of a gerrymandered Senate map:
“Texas Senators had a clear choice today: vote no and fight for a map that accurately reflects the people of Texas or vote yes on an extremely gerrymandered map that fails to reflect Texans and diminishes their voice and vote. Today, they chose the latter and turned their back on Texans by doubling down on gerrymanders from 2011 and endorsing a process that has kept the public all but locked out of this important process.
“Make no mistake, this process is far from over. We call on the Texas Legislature to hold additional hearings that allow public input, and to vote on a new map that accurately reflects community input and the census data.”
