Today, Genevieve Van Cleve, All On The Line Texas State Director, released the following statement on Texas’ State House map proposal:

“The gerrymandered Texas House map released today confirms Republicans are afraid of the growing and diverse population in the state. That’s why they’re not only doubling down on their gerrymanders from 2011, but also threatening our democracy by eliminating all competitive seats and actively diluting the votes of Black and Hispanic Texans, leaving millions without fair representation.

“Make no mistake, there is an obvious and intentional theme in the House, Senate, and congressional maps that Texas legislators have released so far: all of the proposed maps double down on the gerrymandering of the last decade, eliminate competitive districts, unfairly consolidate or separate communities of color, and draw districts in direct opposition to the census data.

“We must continue to hold Republican legislators accountable, and we call on the Texas Legislature to hold additional hearings that allow public input, and create new maps that reflect community input and the census data. All On The Line Texas remains committed to supporting the participation of as many Texans as possible to ensure final maps appropriately reflect the diverse communities across our state.”
