Washington, D.C. – Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States, released the following statement in recognition of National Voter Registration Day:

“National Voter Registration Day is a celebration of our democracy that is meant to recognize the importance of the most fundamental right we have as citizens: the right to vote. As a reminder of the power the vote yields, today signifies the opportunity we all have to enact meaningful change at the ballot box. As our democracy faces existential threats, it is incumbent upon every American voter to participate in this election. In order to protect our democracy, we must do democracy. That means all of us not only must vote, but we must also help others to vote. By checking on your own voter registration, helping others to register to vote, and by volunteering to be a poll worker, each and every one of us can make a difference for our communities and our country. Today we must all make a plan as to how we will participate in our democracy in order to protect it.”
