Washington, D.C. – Today, All On The Line (AOTL) is launching a new effort to help recruit poll workers in partnership with Power the Polls, a nonpartisan 501 (c)(3) organization. Ahead of the November midterm elections, AOTL will leverage its enormous grassroots network to raise awareness of the importance of poll workers and ask volunteers to sign up to serve their communities in these roles.

American democracy is facing existential threats from attempts to politicize election administrators for the purpose of achieving a particular political outcome, no matter the final vote count. This month, the Washington Post reported “nearly two-thirds of GOP nominations for state and federal offices with authority over elections” have been won by election denier candidates, and Politico reported that the Republican National Committee is partnering with well-known election deniers to recruit and train poll workers in key battleground states. Combined, these efforts threaten the end of free and fair elections in the United States.

“The fair maps we fought for will only matter if we have a free and fair democracy. Poll workers must share the same mission: to conduct free and fair elections, no matter the outcome. The role is critical to helping all voters participate in our democracy – not just those we agree with,” said Liz Wester, All On the Line Director of Advocacy and Campaign Manager. “That’s why All On The Line is supporting nonpartisan efforts to recruit more citizens to sign up to do their civic duty and give back to their communities. In the face of real dangers to our democracy, complacency is not an option.”

To kick off the new poll worker recruitment effort, AOTL is hosting a virtual kickoff event this evening in celebration of National Poll Worker Recruitment Day. Volunteers can join by registering HERE.
